First, we visit the impressive Hassan II Mosque, set above the Atlantic on a rocky point. It’s the largest mosque in Morocco, and the ocean views make it even more special.

Afterward, you’ll have free time for lunch. Then we continue with Casablanca’s main sights. Depending on your arrival time, today may include:

  • Mohammed V Square, the lively civic center with striking colonial-era buildings
  • A quick photo stop at Rick’s Café, inspired by the film Casablanca
  • A relaxed walk along the Corniche, the city’s popular seaside promenade

Note: The schedule and number of stops can change based on your arrival time.

Overnight in a comfortable hotel in Casablanca.

Day 2Casablanca, Rabat (capital), then Chefchaouen (about 5.5 hours drive)

After breakfast, we head north along the coast to Rabat, one of Morocco’s imperial cities and the current capital. In Rabat, you’ll see the top landmarks, including:

  • Hassan Tower
  • Mausoleum of Mohammed V
  • Kasbah of the Udayas (Oudaya)

Then you’ll have free time for lunch. Next, we continue north through Ouazzane on our way to Chefchaouen, the famous blue city in the Rif Mountains.

Overnight in a hotel in Chefchaouen.

Day 3Chefchaouen, Volubilis, Meknes, then Fes (about 4 hours drive)

After breakfast, enjoy some time to stroll Chefchaouen’s blue streets and quiet alleys. Then we drive to the Roman ruins of Volubilis, a well-preserved UNESCO World Heritage Site. You’ll see beautiful mosaics, stone columns, and old arches across the site.

Next, we continue to Meknes, the former Ismaili capital and another imperial city. Here we visit:

  • Bab Al-Mansour
  • Sahrij Souani basin
  • The Royal Stables and granaries
  • Moulay Ismail Mausoleum

Later, we drive to Fes.

Overnight in a riad in Fes.

Day 4Fes sightseeing with a local guide (30-minute drive, 3 to 4 hours walking)

After breakfast, we pick you up from your riad to explore Fes, Morocco’s cultural and spiritual center.

We start with a short driving tour. Stops include the Royal Palace Gate, the historic Mellah (Jewish Quarter), and the viewpoint at Borj Sud, which looks out over the old medina. We also visit the Ceramic Village and School to see local artisans at work.

Next comes the guided walking tour inside the medieval Fes medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With your local guide, you’ll see key highlights such as:

  • Al Attarine Madrasa
  • Al Quaraouiyine University and Mosque, often described as the world’s oldest existing university
  • The colorful Chouara Tanneries, where leather dyeing traditions still continue

After the tour, we return you to your riad so you can rest.

Day 5Fes, Ifrane, Cedar Forest, Midelt, Ziz Valley, then Merzouga Sahara (about 7 hours drive)

After breakfast, we head south through Imouzzer and stop in Ifrane, known for its cool weather, snow in winter, and alpine-style homes. Many people call it the Switzerland of Morocco.

Next, we visit the Cedar Forest, home to Barbary macaques. You can walk through the trees and observe them up close. Then we continue to Midelt for free time and lunch.

After lunch, we drive toward Merzouga via the Tizi-n-Tilghmt Pass and along the Ziz Valley. Along the way, we stop for panoramic views.

By afternoon, we arrive in Merzouga, at the edge of the Sahara. Then you switch to camels and ride across the dunes. We pause on a high dune to watch the sunset, then continue to the desert camp. In the evening, enjoy dinner, Berber drum music, and time around the campfire under the stars.

Dinner and overnight in the desert camp.

Day 6Explore Merzouga area, nomads, Khamlia, Merzouga Lake, Erg Chebbi, palm grove (about 2 hours drive)

An early wake-up is worth it today, because sunrise over the dunes is unforgettable. After breakfast, you return to Merzouga by camel or by 4×4, where your driver will be waiting.

Today is all about exploring the Merzouga region. You’ll see a mix of dunes, rocky areas, fossil sites, oases, and desert scenery.

First, we head off-road to an old eyeliner (kohl) mine. Then we visit local nomads in their handwoven tent. You’ll learn about their daily life while enjoying Berber tea.

Next, we stop in Khamlia village for Gnawa music and dance. The community has roots in sub-Saharan Africa, including Mali, Sudan, and Niger. Afterward, enjoy free time for lunch at a local restaurant.

Later, we walk through a palm grove, then drive to Merzouga Lake, also called the Flamingos Lake when conditions are right.

Dinner and overnight in a hotel.

Day 7Merzouga, Rissani, Erfoud, Todra Gorges, then Dades Valley (about 5 hours drive)

After breakfast, we leave the desert and head to Rissani, the former capital of Tafilalet. It’s still a key trading center, and its traditional souk feels lively and local.

After time in the market, we continue to Erfoud and visit a workshop that works with fossilized marble. Then we drive past the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad on the way to the Todra Gorges. The river carved a dramatic canyon with tall red cliffs, and the area is also popular with rock climbers.

You’ll have free time for lunch, then we continue toward the Dades Valley through Boumalne Dades. Along the route, we stop at the Monkey Fingers rock formation and at a scenic viewpoint above the valley.

Dinner and overnight in a hotel.

Day 8Dades Valley, Rose Valley, Skoura palms, Ouarzazate, Ait Ben Haddou, High Atlas, then Marrakech (about 6 hours drive)

Next, we pass through the palm groves of Skoura, then reach Ouarzazate, often called the gateway to the desert. If timing allows, we visit film studios where well-known movies were shot.

Then we head to Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified village and UNESCO World Heritage Site. It has appeared in films like Gladiator, Alexander, and The Mummy, and also in the series Game of Thrones.
