After breakfast, you’ll head north along the coast to Rabat. As an imperial city and Morocco’s current capital, Rabat blends history with a calm coastal feel. You’ll visit key landmarks, including Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the Kasbah of the Udayas. Then enjoy free time for lunch.

In the afternoon, you’ll continue through Ouazzane toward the Rif Mountains. By evening, you’ll arrive in Chefchaouen, famous for its blue-painted streets. Overnight in a hotel.

Day 3Chefchaouen sightseeing, the Blue City (no driving, 2-hour walking tour)

After breakfast, explore Chefchaouen on foot. Also called Achaoun (meaning “horns” in Berber), this mountain town sits in northwest Morocco. It’s best known for white-and-blue walls, bright doors, and quiet alleyways.

First, you’ll stroll through the old medina and its photogenic lanes. Next comes free time for lunch. Later, you can hike up to the Spanish Mosque, set on higher ground, for sweeping views over the blue city. Afterward, return to your hotel for the night.

Day 4Chefchaouen, Volubilis, Meknes, Fes (about 4 hours drive)

After breakfast, enjoy a little extra time in Chefchaouen’s charming streets. Then you’ll drive to Volubilis, Morocco’s best-known Roman ruins and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You’ll see well-preserved mosaics, stone columns, and old arches.

After your visit, you’ll continue about 30 km to Meknes, once the Ismaili capital and another imperial city. Here, you’ll see Bab Al-Mansour, the Sahrij Souani basin, the Royal Stables, the granary, and the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum. In the late afternoon, you’ll head to Fes. Overnight in a riad.

Day 5Fes guided tour with a local guide (30-minute drive, 3 to 4-hour walking tour)

After breakfast, we’ll pick you up from your riad to begin your guided visit of Fes, Morocco’s cultural and spiritual center.

First comes a short driving tour. You’ll stop at the Royal Palace Gate, then visit the Mellah, the historic Jewish Quarter. Next, you’ll take in panoramic views from Borj Sud, overlooking the old medina. You’ll also visit the Ceramic Village and School to watch local artisans at work.

Then, continue on foot into the medieval medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best-preserved historic towns in the region. With your local guide, you’ll visit highlights such as Al Attarine Madrasa, Al Quaraouiyine University and Mosque (often described as the world’s oldest existing university), and the Chouara Tanneries, where leather-making methods still follow long-held traditions.

After the tour, you’ll return to your riad to rest.

Day 6Fes, Ifrane, Cedar Forest, Midelt, Ziz Valley, Merzouga Sahara (about 7 hours drive)

After breakfast, you’ll travel south through Imouzzer toward Ifrane, known for its cool weather, winter snow, and alpine-style homes. Because of its look and climate, many call it the Switzerland of Morocco.

Next, you’ll stop in the Cedar Forest, home to Barbary macaques. You can walk among the trees and observe them up close. Later, you’ll reach Midelt for a lunch break.

In the afternoon, the drive continues through the Tizi-n-Tilghmt pass and along the Ziz Valley, with scenic stops along the way. By late day, you’ll arrive in Merzouga, at the edge of the Sahara. You’ll switch to camels and ride across the dunes. You’ll pause on a high dune to watch the sunset, then continue to the desert camp.

At camp, enjoy dinner, music, and Berber drumming around the fire under a wide starry sky. Overnight in the camp.

Day 7Explore the Merzouga area, nomads, Khamlia, lake, Erg Chebbi, palm grove (about 2 hours drive)

First, you’ll go off-road to visit an old eyeliner (kohl) mine. Next, you’ll visit local nomads in a hand-woven tent and share Berber tea while learning about daily life. Then you’ll head to Khamlia, known for Gnawa music and dance. The village has roots in sub-Saharan cultures, including Mali, Sudan, and Niger.

After free time for lunch, you’ll walk through a palm grove. Later, you’ll visit the seasonal Lake of Merzouga, also called Flamingo Lake. Finally, return to Merzouga for dinner and an overnight stay in a hotel.

Day 8Merzouga, Rissani, Erfoud, Todra Gorges, Dades Valley (about 5 hours drive)

After time in the souk, you’ll continue to Erfoud to visit a workshop that works with fossilized marble. Then the route passes through Touroug and Tinjdad palm groves on the way to the Todra Gorges. Here, the Todra River cut a dramatic canyon with tall red cliffs. Rock climbers often train here, and the walk through the gorge is equally rewarding.

After lunch, you’ll travel on to the Dades Valley via Boumalne Dades. Along the way, you’ll stop at the “monkey fingers” rock formations and at a viewpoint above the valley. Dinner and overnight in a hotel.

Day 9Dades Valley, Rose Valley, Skoura, Ouarzazate, Ait Ben Haddou, High Atlas, Marrakech (about 5.5 hours drive)
